RIO RANCHO, N.M. — A Rio Rancho police officer is being praised for going above and beyond his duties after stepping in to complete a DoorDash delivery following a routine traffic stop.
Officer Steve Lucero had pulled over a driver who was working for DoorDash when it was discovered the individual had an outstanding warrant for failing to resolve a traffic citation. The driver was arrested and taken into custody, but Lucero made sure the food order didn’t go undelivered.
In body camera footage, the officer can be heard explaining the situation to the surprised customer. “Your driver had a traffic ticket he didn’t take care of, so he’s headed to jail,” Lucero said with a smile. “He’s a good kid—just made a mistake. Give him five stars.”
Rather than leave the customer waiting, Lucero personally delivered the Chick-fil-A order himself.
He later shared that the driver had already posted bond and someone was en route to bail him out. The officer’s unexpected act of kindness has since gained attention online, highlighting a lighter, more human side of law enforcement.
