Albuquerque Gunman Admits Guilt in Shooting That Killed One, Injured Another

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man from Albuquerque has entered a guilty plea in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of one man and left another wounded in June 2024, according to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.

The suspect, identified as Jamil Lewis, admitted to fatally shooting Gerald Ibuado and injuring his brother Edward Ibuado during an altercation near Cochiti Road and Indiana Street SE.

Confrontation Turns Deadly

According to prosecutors, Lewis had been walking with two others when an argument escalated. Gerald reportedly punched one of the individuals with Lewis over an unresolved debt. When Edward attempted to intervene, Lewis opened fire, striking both brothers. Gerald died from his injuries, while Edward survived but was injured.

Arrest and Charges

Lewis was not immediately apprehended. He was taken into custody about a month later after being stopped for an unrelated shoplifting offense. During that arrest, police learned he was wanted in connection with the shooting.
