ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in southeast Albuquerque, following a confrontation reportedly sparked by a disagreement over a motorcycle.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, 31-year-old Ann Marie Chaires was shot and killed on July 2 after being approached by three masked individuals at an apartment complex on Madeira Drive. Police identified two of the suspects as Nicholas Lucio and Matthew Mitchem.
Investigators say the men confronted Chaires, accusing her of selling a motorcycle that Mitchem had been storing at the complex. When she refused to retrieve the bike or admit to taking it, the situation escalated. A witness reported seeing one of the men fire a shot that struck Chaires in the head, killing her at the scene.
