Weed Burning Blamed for House Fire in Southwest Albuquerque, Says AFR

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A house fire in southwest Albuquerque on Thursday morning may have started from weed burning, according to Albuquerque Fire Rescue.

Emergency crews were called out around 9:45 a.m. to the area of Emerald Sky, near Arenal Road and Unser Boulevard, after reports of smoke. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke coming from the attic of a residential home.

Crews quickly went to work and had the fire contained within 10 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the blaze was prevented from spreading beyond the home.

Investigators believe the fire may have been sparked by nearby vegetation being burned, though the exact cause remains under review.
