The announcement comes days after a deadly incident on campus claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy. Early in the morning on July 25, UNM police responded to a report of gunfire at Mes Vista Hall. Inside a dorm room at Casas del Rio, officers discovered the teen deceased and a 19-year-old with injuries from the shooting.
University officials say the press conference will outline steps being taken to improve security on and around the campus.
