ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque BioPark Zoo has welcomed a new resident to its Ape Walk exhibit. Polaris, a 6-year-old lar gibbon, recently arrived from another zoo and is settling into his new home in the New Mexico climate.
Since arriving, Polaris has been introduced to Siena, an 8-year-old gibbon already living at the zoo. According to zookeepers, the two have formed a positive bond and have even been seen grooming each other—a sign of comfort and companionship among primates.

Gibbons are known for their agility and can swing through trees at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Zoo officials also highlight that lar gibbons, like Polaris and Siena, are classified as endangered, making their care and conservation particularly important.
Visitors to the BioPark can now spot the playful duo as they navigate the exhibit together.
