An East Orange man has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for federal drug and firearm offenses stemming from a 2022 arrest.
Ibraheem Muhammad, 41, received a 120-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple federal charges, including illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, possession of fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking operation.
U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti handed down the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release after Muhammad’s prison term concludes.

Muhammad was taken into custody on May 9, 2022, after law enforcement officers witnessed him leaving a residence in East Orange and conducting what they believed to be a drug sale. Authorities recovered heroin on him, as well as keys that led them to an apartment that was later searched.
Inside the residence, officials discovered a significant stash: heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, drug packaging supplies, approximately $14,000 in cash, and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic Girsan handgun along with extra ammunition.
The investigation was carried out by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the East Orange Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Farhana C. Melo and Aja Espinosa of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Economic Crimes Unit in Newark.
