ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As the summer winds down, the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is gearing up for one final community celebration ahead of the new school year. On Tuesday, APD will participate in the annual National Night Out, a nationwide event aimed at strengthening relationships between residents and law enforcement while promoting safer neighborhoods.
This year, over 50 parks across Albuquerque will host a variety of gatherings—from neighborhood barbecues to interactive displays and kid-friendly activities. Officers, police service aides, cadets, and even members of the National Guard will be present to engage with the public.

“It’s a chance for people to meet our officers in a positive environment,” said APD Communications Director Gilbert Gallegos. “Kids get excited seeing our mounted patrol and tactical teams, and events like this help create familiarity and trust that isn’t formed in the aftermath of a crisis.”
APD encourages families and neighbors to come out, enjoy the festivities, and learn about public safety efforts. A full schedule of participating locations and activities can be found on the department’s official website.
