ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A long-standing fixture of Albuquerque’s Nob Hill, Scalo Italian restaurant, has officially closed after nearly 40 years of serving fine Italian cuisine. Visitors to the restaurant’s website are now met with a heartfelt farewell from the leadership team, citing unsuccessful efforts to keep the business afloat.
According to the message, Scalo’s management had continued to operate at a loss while actively searching for a new owner. Despite their dedication and commitment, they were ultimately unable to secure a buyer, leading to the decision to close permanently. “We were trying to keep the Scalo flame alive… Unfortunately, we had no success,” the statement reads.

The site now only features a gallery showcasing images of its elegant interior and signature dishes, a quiet tribute to the restaurant’s rich legacy.
Previously, Scalo had announced a temporary closure in mid-June, promising to reopen after renovations under new ownership. However, plans were overshadowed by a lawsuit filed on June 30 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The suit accuses the restaurant of retaliating against employees who reported sexual harassment by management.
