2025 Football Season Preview: Ruidoso High School Looks to Impress

RUIDOSO, N.M.  — The Village of Ruidoso has faced significant challenges in recent years, enduring destructive wildfires and devastating floods that have deeply impacted the community. These hardships have also affected the local high school football team, which is now striving to lift spirits with a strong performance on the field.

Ruidoso High School’s football program has been tested both on and off the field. “It’s been tough for everyone — we’ve had students lose their homes, including one of our football players. Some of our teachers have been affected too. Flooding has caused frequent practice cancellations, sometimes for several days, which takes a toll on the entire team,” shared Shane Eidson, the school’s Athletic Director and newly appointed head football coach.

Despite the setbacks, Eidson emphasized the resilience of the players and the community’s determination to push forward. “Our kids are incredibly tough. The mindset here is that floods or any other obstacles won’t stop us. We’re committed to working hard, overcoming these challenges, and earning some victories this season.”

The Warriors enter the 2025 season with a strong returning roster, including 30 players from last year and seven seniors who are expected to lead the team. After finishing the previous season with a 2-9 record, Eidson brings renewed energy and a fresh approach to the program. “I’m injecting more intensity into our practices and games. When we hit the field, we’ll shift gears and play aggressively. We want to catch opponents off guard and compete fiercely every game,” Eidson said.

Ruidoso will open its 2025 season on August 22, hosting the Eunice Cardinals at 7 p.m. Fans are eager to see the Warriors take the field and bring positive momentum to their community.
