ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — On Thursday, Albuquerque celebrated residents who have made a positive impact through volunteer work. The city hosted the “One Albuquerque” and “Volunteer of the Month” awards at the Albuquerque Garden Center, where the mayor recognized individuals for their dedication to the community.
Among the honorees was Zaireth Powers, recognized for her work volunteering at a local hospice. Powers shared the personal fulfillment she gains from helping others. “Even dedicating just an hour or two each week, or even a single day, makes a meaningful difference,” she said. “Being able to support patients and give their families some much-needed rest is incredibly important.”

The awards not only acknowledge those assisting people at the end of life but also highlight contributions to broader community initiatives, including anti-bullying programs and efforts to make neighborhoods more pedestrian-friendly.
Albuquerque residents interested in nominating a volunteer for future recognition can do so through the city’s official volunteer portal.
