Alamogordo Police Explain Why Football Stadium Was Cleared

Alamogordo, N.M. — A varsity football game in Alamogordo was cut short Friday night after police responded to multiple disturbances that raised safety concerns.

According to the Alamogordo Police Department, officers were called to the stadium after several altercations broke out among attendees. During the response, a 14-year-old girl was taken into custody for allegedly battering an officer, while a 15-year-old boy was referred to juvenile authorities on charges of public affray and obstructing an officer.

As officers worked to gain control of the situation, they also received information about possible threats tied to the incidents. Out of caution, Alamogordo Public Schools decided to evacuate the stadium in order to protect players, families, and fans.

Police say the investigation into the threats and disturbances is still ongoing.
