According to the Albuquerque Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area near Georgine Street and Menaul Boulevard after receiving a call regarding a dispute between a woman and her boyfriend. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 33-year-old man armed with a weapon and taking cover behind a vehicle.

Authorities say officers gave multiple commands for the man to disarm, which he refused. Non-lethal tactics were reportedly used in an attempt to safely resolve the situation. Police later determined that the suspect had fired at least one shot before officers arrived.
The man was ultimately shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The incident is under investigation.
