Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico Hosts Back-to-School Giveaway Event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — With the new school year just around the corner, dozens of local businesses and community organizations came together on Saturday to support students in need. Led by Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, the event provided free back-to-school essentials to help kids start the semester confident and prepared.

More than 25 sponsors participated, offering a wide range of services including free backpacks, shoes, vaccinations, and even haircuts for students and their families.

The goal? To ease the financial burden for families facing economic challenges.

“This helps a lot of people who can’t always afford school stuff,” said student Andy Brown, who left the event with new supplies and a fresh haircut. “I’m really thankful.”

Event coordinators emphasized that the effort is about more than just school supplies—it’s about leveling the playing field for all students, regardless of income.

The center that hosted the event is open throughout the year and continues to serve the community with resources and support beyond the back-to-school season.
