The Esparto community came together Monday to honor the lives of two brothers—Jesus and Jhony Ramos Jr.—who were among seven people killed in a devastating fireworks warehouse explosion earlier this month.
The siblings, remembered for their strong bond and joyful spirits, were laid to rest side by side in Colma, a city just south of San Francisco. Their funeral, held in Daly City, brought together family, friends, and community members who celebrated their lives with heartfelt tributes, music, and tearful goodbyes.
Jesus, 18, had only just started working at the fireworks facility on the night of the July 1 explosion. His older brother Jhony, 22, was known for being a protective and caring presence in his family. The tragedy has left their loved ones grappling with unimaginable loss.
“My cousins meant the world to so many,” said Alexis Hernandez, a family member. “They were kind, full of life, and deeply cherished by everyone who knew them.”
Adding to the heartbreak, the family revealed that Jesus was expecting a child. “We’re going to make sure that his baby knows how loved he was and is always taken care of,” Hernandez said.

Though many at the service were close to the Ramos family, others in attendance had never met the brothers. They were drawn by the magnitude of the tragedy and came to show solidarity with the grieving family.
“This terrible event has impacted our entire town,” said Esparto resident Laura Thomas. “It’s heartbreaking, but it’s also brought people together in support and compassion.”
Photos displayed at the memorial showed the brothers smiling through childhood and into adulthood—reminders of the joy and love they brought into the world.
More than $60,000 has been raised through online donations to help cover funeral costs and support the Ramos family during this difficult time.
