Four Gang Members Indicted in Rival Shooting Case

Four individuals connected to a Paterson street gang known as “4K” have been federally indicted in connection with a November 2022 shooting that authorities say targeted members of a rival gang. The indictment stems from a broader federal investigation into violent gang activity in the area, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba on Thursday.

Those Indicted
The defendants — Jatrail Avent (aka “Curry”), Shequan Roberts (aka “Shingy”), Jahmir Moody (aka “Jahdi”), and Wizair Johnson (aka “Wababy”) — face multiple charges. These include one count of committing a violent crime in furtherance of racketeering activity, and one count of discharging a firearm during a violent offense. Additional previously filed gun charges remain in place.

Details of the Incident
Federal prosecutors say that on November 6, 2022, the four defendants participated in a coordinated shooting targeting a van carrying members of the rival “230 Boyz” gang. The attack is believed to be part of a continuing feud between the two groups, both of which are known for involvement in drug distribution and violent acts throughout the Rosa Parks Boulevard corridor in Paterson.

Gang Context
According to investigators, “4K Enterprise” operates in a network of Paterson streets including Lyon, Keen, and Mercer. The group is accused of being involved in numerous criminal activities such as shootings, homicides, robberies, and narcotics trafficking.

Potential Penalties
If convicted, each of the accused could face up to 20 years in prison for the racketeering-related violent crime and a mandatory minimum of 10 years (with a possibility of life) for discharging a firearm during a violent act. These sentences would be served consecutively, and each charge carries a potential fine of up to $250,000.

Ongoing Investigation
The case is being prosecuted as part of the Paterson Violent Crime Initiative (VCI), a multi-agency task force launched in 2020 to target gang-related crime in the city. The investigation involved coordinated efforts from the FBI, ATF, New Jersey State Police, Paterson Police Department, and Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

All four individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
