Authorities are investigating the death of a 57-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his jail cell at the West Valley Detention Center on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies discovered the man during a routine check at the Rancho Cucamonga facility. On-site medical personnel and emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the case. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.
