Small Child Found Dead in Parking Lot as Police Investigate ‘Horrific’ Crime

In a deeply tragic discovery early Saturday morning, July 12, Los Angeles police responded to a disturbing scene in Panorama City, where the body of a small child was found near a dumpster behind a shopping center on Van Nuys Boulevard.

Authorities say the boy appears to be between 3 and 4 years old. Officers from the LAPD Mission Division arrived around 7 a.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity has not been determined.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Juvenile Division, specifically the Abused Child Unit, is leading the investigation. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance cameras and speaking with residents and businesses in the area to gather any leads that could explain how the child ended up there.

The heartbreaking discovery has shaken the community. Over the weekend, local residents came together to honor the child with a vigil, placing candles, flowers, and stuffed animals at the site.

Christian Sanchez, who operates a nearby banquet facility, expressed sorrow and disbelief. “To know something like this happened just a few feet away… it’s devastating,” he said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward as the investigation continues.
