Top 6 Highlights from the July Cloudcroft School Board Meeting

The Cloudcroft School Board convened Monday evening and covered several important updates for the district. Here are six key highlights from the session:

1. Bringing the Board to Rural Communities

Board members are planning to host their next meeting on September 16 in Weed, NM, as part of an initiative to connect more directly with families in outlying areas served by Cloudcroft Municipal Schools.

2. New Staff Join the Cloudcroft Team

District administrators introduced several new hires and promotions across campuses:

  • Cloudcroft High School: Principal Cody Skinner welcomed Eddie Hon as the new Special Education (SPED) teacher, along with SPED Assistants Brittney Coville and Nicole Finch.

  • Cloudcroft Elementary & Middle School: Principal Nolene Adams recognized new staff including 2nd-grade teacher Melani Moore (a former interventionist who also led recent improvements to the school library), 5th-grade teacher Raini Shelton, Educational Assistant Marisa Abeyta, and SPED Teacher Jeff Curtis.

3. Propane Vendor Contract Awarded

Pinnacle Propane of Alamogordo secured the 2025-2026 school year contract to provide propane to the district. According to Business Office Manager Lisa Royer, the decision was made based on lowest qualified bid, as required by policy.

4. Testing Data Release Delayed

The school’s performance progress and assessment data for 2024-2025 will be available in October through NM Vistas. Updates will be shared as soon as the information becomes public.

5. Classes Start August 6

A reminder to students and parents: the first day of school is Wednesday, August 6. School supplies and back-to-school events are underway in preparation.

6. Students Help Flood Recovery in Ruidoso

Athletic Director Joni Watson and 2nd Grade Teacher Melani Moore recently organized a trip for Cloudcroft students and alumni to assist with flood relief efforts in Ruidoso. The group helped fill sandbags for community protection and support local emergency response teams.
