Two Arrested After Alleged Threats Target Alamogordo Football Game

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — What should have been a routine Friday night under the stadium lights in Alamogordo turned tense when law enforcement evacuated a high school football game after multiple disturbances and reported threats.

According to the Alamogordo Police Department, the incident occurred on Friday, August 29, around 9:20 p.m., during the varsity football matchup. Officers were called to respond to several disruptions inside the stadium, ultimately leading to two teenage arrests and the removal of fans from the game.

Arrests Made at the Game

Police reported that a 14-year-old boy was arrested on charges of battery against a peace officer as well as resisting and obstructing an officer. In a separate incident, a 15-year-old was also taken into custody and referred for charges related to public affray, fighting, and resisting law enforcement.

The arrests came after officials said disturbances began escalating among attendees, creating safety concerns for those in the stands. As officers attempted to manage the situation, reports of additional threats linked to the initial disruptions began circulating, prompting the immediate decision to evacuate the stadium.

Evacuation for Safety

Out of an abundance of caution, Alamogordo police cleared the stadium and ended the game early. Authorities did not disclose the nature of the threats but confirmed that they were serious enough to warrant removing spectators and ensuring no further violence occurred.

Although the evacuation caused confusion and disappointment among fans and players, law enforcement emphasized that safety had to remain the top priority.

School District Response

In the days following the incident, Alamogordo Public Schools issued a letter to the community addressing the events and outlining steps to improve safety moving forward.

The district stated that it is committed to:

  • Strengthening collaboration with local police to provide coordinated safety measures.

  • Increasing communication with students and families about expected conduct at extracurricular activities.

  • Reviewing and updating district guidelines for behavior at school-sponsored events.

  • Maintaining a visible presence of both security staff and administrators at large gatherings.

District leaders acknowledged the concern felt by parents, staff, and community members, but reassured them that measures are being taken to ensure school events remain safe for all participants.

Investigation Continues

The case remains under investigation, and Alamogordo police have not released further details about the threats tied to the game. Officials noted that such situations are taken very seriously and that more information will be shared as the investigation develops.

Law enforcement also encouraged parents and community members to speak with students about appropriate behavior at public events and to report any suspicious activity or potential threats immediately.

Balancing School Spirit with Safety

High school football games are traditionally a place for students, families, and the broader community to come together in celebration of school spirit. The Aug. 29 disturbances highlight the challenge of maintaining a safe environment while still allowing for the excitement of extracurricular activities.

School officials and law enforcement emphasized that while incidents like this can be disruptive, the quick response by officers and district leaders demonstrates the community’s commitment to protecting students and families.
